Tour of 'York' Coorparoo Renovation

Discover York, a pre-war Queenslander extended and reimagined for subtropical living, preserving the warmth of the original while embracing contemporary life.

Rather than starting from scratch, the design reuses the existing structure, reducing waste and maintaining the authentic character of a Queenslander. The extension is oriented to make the most of Queensland's climate, with the kitchen relocated to the east to capture morning light and prevailing breezes, and living spaces flowing to a new pool and outdoor entertaining area at the rear.

A radial-cut timber cladding in a board-and-batten system wraps the addition, a sustainable choice that makes use of the whole log and reduces offcuts. A suspended concrete planter screens the dining room from neighbouring properties, offering privacy without closing off the landscape.

Inside, muted tones, brushed finishes, and warm natural timber floors create a sense of relaxed luxury that feels entirely at home in its Queensland setting.
