    Event description

UNAA Victoria and the Immigration Museum invite you to this important panel discussion following the tabling of the Global Compact on Refugees in the UN General Assembly in December.

The Compact is being hailed as a new comprehensive response framework for large-scale refugee movements globally which, when adopted, will provide a blueprint for a stronger, fairer, more predictable and sustainable international response built on responsibility and burden-sharing.

How should the Compact be understood and approached in Australia and what is its importance, particularly as we approach a Federal Election which could lead to revision of Australia’s refugee policies and programs?

Expert speakers will look at how the Compact might be applied in the specific Australian context and the implications of this for revitalising refugee protection systems in this country.

    Panel members:
--Erika Feller, former UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner and now Professorial Fellow, Melbourne University, and UNAA Goodwill Ambassador on Refugees

-- Paris Aristotle A0, Chair of the Settlement Services Advisory Council

-- Dr Sonja Hood, CEO Community Hubs Australia

-- Fiona Patten MP, Leader of Reason Australia
