Discover how to make and record music in your classroom with know-how, tools and the music industry tricks from leading South Australian musicians and sound artists Margie Jean Lewis and Kiera Simmons.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

Create music with what you have in the classroom.
Capture sound using low-tech solutions.
Use free software to finish your tracks so they are ready to share.

Along the way, the workshop will highlight copyright and student artist permissions to help your students to understand the value of their creativity and protect it.

This workshop provides an engaging hands-on experience where you can connect with like-minded colleagues and to have your questions answered by experienced teaching artists with real-world experience.

A certificate of professional learning will be provided. This professional learning workshop will support you in demonstrating the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teacher: 2.1, 2.6, 3.4, 6.2

Workshop Teaching Artists

Keira Simmons

Keira J. Simmons (she/they) is a South Australian sound artist and sound designer. She creates projects that explore bodily engagement with place and sound, through speculative soundwalking and performing meditative ambient sets. Collaborating with local and global artists on creative projects, her work focuses on queerness, ecology, neurodivergence and embodied theatrical experiences.

Margie Jean Lewis

Margie Jean Lewis is a South Australian musician, composer, multi-disciplinary artist and floral designer who lived and worked in Dublin, Ireland for 13 years before returning to her hometown of Adelaide in 2020. Specialising in vocals, violin, loopstations and electronic sound design, she is known for her live performances of intricately crafted ethereal soundscapes and has toured throughout Ireland, UK and Europe.

Bookings are prioritised for teachers employed by the Department for Education and must be made with your Department for Education email address.
