Traces and places: empowering GLAM voices to shape AI futures
Event description
The rise of AI techniques and technologies is constantly accompanied by a narrative of inevitable, disruptive change. This narrative places the onus on individuals and organisations to adopt, adapt or perish. While the changes brought by AI, generative or otherwise, are profound, the GLAM sector has an important role to play in shaping AI, and indeed already has.
Building on the collaborative partnership between the ANU School of Cybernetics and the National Library of Australia in 2021, this event invites participants from the GLAM sector to rethink the important role of Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums in shaping and steering towards safe, sustainable and responsible futures with and through technology.  Â
The event will take place in the heritage-listed and award-winning Birch Building, home to the ANU School of Cybernetics. Over the course of two hours, participants will discuss critical issues in AI with their peers, and gain insight on how Cybernetic Futures techniques can be leveraged to amplify the role of GLAM organisations. The event will conclude with a tour of the Birch building collections, featuring historical and contemporary artworks to lead and enrich conversations about possible futures.
