Join A Gender Agenda and Friends for a night of insightful discussion and reflection on Trans Joy and what Trans Awareness Week means for us!

Why Trans Joy? Trans Joy is resistance and strength. It is finding community, forging our found family, uncovering queer love and hope. Trans Joy is mutual aid, and justice, and some damn good potlucks. We want to focus on all the things they said we couldn't have, share stories where we built our own joy in a world where everything can feel against us.

Our panelists are activists, advocates, and leaders in our community, with so much valuable knowledge to share. Join our panelists and our MC extraordinaire, Alistair Ott, for a night of sharing stories of resilience, joy, and identity.

Doors open at 5:00pm, join us for nibbles and networking before the panel at 5:30pm. There will be time for questions at the end!

Youth Point is joining us! Free tickets are available for young people aged 12-25 to attend this event!
We are also offering free tickets for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Peoples, and QTIBIPOC folk to attend!

MC - Alistair Ott:
Alistair (They/He) is a Wiradjuri queer trans fulla living and working on Ngunnawal Country. Alistair works at A Gender Agenda supporting trans, gender diverse, and intersex communities, and at the Australian National University as an Indigenous Academic Associate and PhD Student. Alistair dreams of a world where his communities can live and be safe, affirmed, and valued.

Tian Kaelin:

Tian is an avid and perpetual learner beginning their journey as a community organiser. Inspired by their mixed Malaysian Chinese heritage, queerness and the experiences of their queer BIPOC community, their passion lies in exploring joy, rest and love as political through cross-solidarity with racial justice, disability justice and other liberation movements.
They are an undergraduate student and co-giver of body and soul to DEiFY - a community/arts collective for Queer, Trans, Intersex Bla(c)k, Indigenous and People of Colour born on Ngunnawal, Ngunawal and Ngambri Country.

C Moore:

C Moore (they/them) is a disabled and genderqueer person born and raised in Canberra. C regularly speaks on the intersectional experience of LGBTQIA+ and disabled people. In their day job, C works to empower people to get what they need from the health system.

Kavitha Sivasamy:

Kaviitha Sivasamy (she/her) is a proud transgender woman of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage living in Ngunnawal and Ngambri country. During the day, she works as a community lawyer with victim-survivors domestic violence. Outside work, she is an occasional performer who recently entered the wonderful world of musicals. In her free time, she will be spending time with her puppy, spending time with friends, cooking up some yummy food, or fine-tuning her singing and dancing skills. Kavitha is passionate about making the world a better place for trans and gender diverse people.

All proceeds will go towards Encampment 2024, an LGBTIQA+ camp for youth aged 13-17 years and mentors aged 20-25 years! Encampment is an inclusive and fun space for young LGBTIQA+ young people to gather, gain social support and build their community connections.

Accessibility:

There is both a ramp and stairs up to the main entrance and a button to open the front doors, there is a completely flat carpet from the entrance to the hall, which has a wooden floor. There are three disabled parking spots in the circular driveway.

There is a disabled bathroom available, and all bathrooms will be gender-neutral for this event.
