Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil

Each year on November 20th, communities around the world come together for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) - a time for solidarity, reflection and remembrance. We gather to honour the transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGD) lives we have lost to anti-trans violence and discrimination, to hold their memory close, and to carry their love forward with us.

Presented by Transgender Victoria in partnership with City of Yarra, this commemorative event is a gentle, welcoming space for all ages, including children. All are welcome to join us in this important act of remembrance and resilience.

On the Night:

Doors open at 5:30PM at Fitzroy Town Hall, with speakers and performances beginning at 5:45PM. Entry remains open for the entire event, so you are welcome to arrive whenever you are able. From 7:00PM to 8:00PM there will be a social connection hour, with light refreshments and time to be together as a community. Registration is encouraged, but not required.

Share Your Story:

This vigil is a chance to remember and share stories of the loved ones we have lost, while gently holding one another through our shared grief. If you'd like to share a few words, a eulogy, a poem, a song, or anything else, we'd be honoured to hear from you. Please register your interest by emailing events@tgv.org.au by 30 October.

We know that Trans Day of Remembrance can bring up a lot, and that grief does not keep to a schedule. Please go gently with yourself in the lead-up to the night and in the days after. Whether or not you are able to join us, you do not have to sit with heavy feelings alone.

Accessibility:

There is a family space, a sensory space, and the main vigil space - all located on ground level. The vigil will have Auslan interpretation.
