Brisbane Chamber Choir: Transcendence
Event description
In this concert, Brisbane Chamber Choir presents a selection of sublime choral music for orchestra and choir. As an intoxicating spectrum of choral music fills the glorious acoustic of St Stephen's Cathedral, you will feel transcended.
The first work in this concert of choral gems may be new to you but which you already know very well. As was common in the Baroque period, where composers honoured their peers by “borrowing” their music, Michel Corrette has skilfully rewritten Vivaldi’s famous “Spring” Concerto from The Four Seasons to be a glorious hymn of praise for choir and orchestra – Laudate Dominum.
This is followed by Franz Schubert’s gem, the much-loved Mass in G. This is where Romantic lyricism meets Classical vitality - where earth meets heaven in joyous accord.
The concert ends with Felix Mendelssohn’s Magnificat in D. This is a youthful work from this prodigious talent and draws inspiration from the Baroque yet is thoroughly romantic in its joyous celebration of this popular choral text.
Join us for a pre-concert talk at 6:30 pm.
