Join TransFolk in the Perth Pride Parade 2024
Event description
Join us to march in the 2024 Boorloo/Perth Pride Parade!
You’re invited to celebrate Trans Pride by marching with us on Saturday 23rd November.
Every year we love to have trans, non-binary and gender diverse folks walking with us and proudly celebrating their identities! We also love when families and friends join us to march with their loved one in support. You don’t have to be an active member/part of TransFolk of WA to march with us!
Please register through Humanitix by completing a free ticket by 16/10/24. Only people registered will be able to march with us due to wristband restrictions.
The Parade location and time:
This year the parade is being held in Northbridge, Perth. The parade will be in the evening of Saturday 23rd November, we will meet up in the late afternoon (more info come).
TransFolk of WA acknowledges that this event will occur on the stolen lands of the Whadjuk Noongar Nation and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
What to wear:
We love to celebrate trans pride! There’s no set uniform or outfit, but we encourage folks to create your own outfit in trans pride colours (pink, blue and white) or non-binary pride colours (purple, yellow, white, black). Our theme this year is 'We are our intersections' and we will proudly be displaying a range of flags on our float that represent the breadth of the trans and gender diverse community in WA.
More info on our theme will be provided to people that register.
Accessibility info:
Children and young people: Please note that people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult (who must also register).Â
Joining the parade for the first time: It can be a bit intimidating deciding whether marching in the parade feels comfy for you! We recommend bringing a friend (or a few!) – please make sure they also sign up. We’ll also be sharing plenty of tips and info about what to expect in the lead up to the day. If you have specific questions, feel free to send us a message!
Length of march: The march will be approximately a 1.3km (20-30 minute) walk. On the parade afternoon, you will meet a volunteer at the parade entry location (details to be provided beforehand) and walk to the float set-up area. There will likely be a fair amount of standing during waiting periods.
Sitting on the float: There will be LIMITED spots to sit and stand on our parade float with priority given to folks with mobility needs who otherwise can’t take part in the parade. Please include info about your needs in the registration so we can chat to you about this. Unfortunately, we can’t confirm there will be enough sitting spots for everyone that wants one.
Parade surface: The parade will march on the road in Northbridge and should be suitable for wheelchairs and other mobility aids. There will be footpaths to navigate on the walk to the parade location.
Sensory considerations: The Parade is usually noisy with lots of loud music and people talking. Once it gets dark, there is usually a lot of bright and colourful lights. This can be overstimulating for some folks and some people might find earplugs, headphones or sunglasses useful in helping reduce noise and light overstimulation.
Expectations:
By registering to march with us you agree to:
- Listen to directions from TransFolk of WA marshals and Pride WA marshals/volunteers.
- Treat other people with respect
- To not promote, enact or share offensive views. Transphobia and racism will not be tolerated.
- Consent to having your photo taken during the Pride Parade (this is a requirement from Pride WA). TransFolk will also take a group photo before the parade that you can opt out of. Photos will be shared on social media.
- Bring along your own bottle of water to stay hydrated during the parade.
What if you register and later change your mind or can’t make it on the day?
It’s ok to change your mind! Please get in touch – email admin@transfolkofwa.org
