This workshop delves deeply into children's natural ability to heal stress and trauma that they have been exposed to, from something as small as a visit to the dentist to more serious traumas such as severe accidents or medical trauma etc. Crying, raging and laugher can transform children’s behaviour.

It takes place over 2 days 26th and 27th Sepetmber 9:00am-12:30pm.

Workshop Description

Children naturally know how to heal from stress if we understand how to support them.

From everyday experiences like visits to the dentist or starting school, to more significant events such as illness, accidents, or medical procedures, children accumulate stress in their nervous systems. When this stress isn’t released, it can show up as challenging behaviour, anxiety, sleep difficulties, hyperactivity, learning struggles, or emotional withdrawal.

In this practical and insightful workshop, we will explore how children’s natural stress-release mechanisms: crying, raging, play, and laughter to help restore emotional balance and support resilience.

You will learn how to recognise when behaviour is actually a sign that a child is trying to heal, and how to respond in ways that support emotional recovery rather than suppress feelings.

Drawing on the Aware Parenting approach and Rebecca’s many years of experience working with children, families, and schools, this workshop offers compassionate, evidence-informed guidance and practical tools you can use straight away.

Participants often leave feeling relieved, inspired, and empowered, with a deeper understanding of children and a more peaceful approach to parenting.

The session includes teaching, small-group reflection exercises, and time for questions in a warm, supportive environment.

About Rebecca Sheikh

Rebecca Sheikh is a certified Level 2 Aware Parenting teacher, and her passion lies in helping parents find ways to discipline without the use of punishments or rewards. She taught as primary school teacher for 17 years before having her first child. She is now the mother of two children (ages 12 and 9). She completed an MA in Counselling in Education at The Tavistock Institute in London and has done a Foundation Course in Nonviolent Communication. She also has an Oncology Certified Nurse qualification in Gentle Sleep Methods and has completed the Hand in hand Parenting Professional Intensive. She is currently doing her counselling skills and will be working towards BACP accreditation and training to be a sandplay therapist. Rebecca leads staff meetings in schools to help teachers look at alternatives to punishments and rewards, leads Attachment Play workshops and offers consultations to support parents with the Aware Parenting approach. More recently she is involved in setting up a gentle play group and gentle parent and child groups. Rebecca also works on the executive council of The International Attachment Network.
