Chaplaincy - A Very Different Ministry: Transition to Chaplaincy Course 

Everything you wanted to know about chaplaincy but were afraid to ask!  

This short course is designed for those considering a shift from congregational ministry into chaplaincy, and for those considering chaplaincy as a lay ministry.  All are welcome.

Chaplaincy is very different from congregational placements.  In this course we propose to unpack  myths and misunderstandings about what it involves,  and offer accurate information to help you discern whether it’s a ministry for you.   This intensive won’t teach you how to be a chaplain but it will give you insight into the breadth and depth of this unique calling, and the variety of contexts and placements where the ministry of chaplaincy happens. 

This course is for:

• Candidates, lay people, or those engaged in a period of discernment to consider Chaplaincy as a ministry
• Ministers to plan transitions and/or to consider whether they may be suited to Chaplaincy
• Those in Presbyteries who conduct vitality of call conversations
• Members of Synod Placements and members of Joint Nominating Committees (JNCs) to evaluate or match people to placements 

This chaplaincy awareness/transition course will be run at The Centre for Theology and Ministry

Date: Wednesday August 9 and Thursday August 10, 9.30am – 4pm

Cost: $60 (includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea each day)

Aims of the Course

• To resource ordained ministers transitioning to chaplaincy and those incorporating chaplaincy into an existing ministry/congregation role
• To enable an effective transition from other forms of ministry and minimise “transition shock”
• To inform those who are discerning whether Chaplaincy might be a good fit for them  
• To encourage sustainability in Chaplaincy Ministry
