Description

Trauma-aware and healing-informed practice has been identified by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety as an approach that requires strengthening in our sector. It is embedded in the new Aged Care Act, the strengthened Quality Standards and the Statement of Rights.

Trauma-aware and healing-informed practice is a compassionate and thoughtful approach to delivering support. It recognises that trauma can have a profound and lasting impact on how a person feels, thinks, behaves and relates to others.

About the sessions
This interactive in person workshop builds the capability of aged care teams to embed trauma-aware and healing-informed practices across the client journey.

Aligned with the new Aged Care Act and Statement of Rights, the session explores how trauma shapes the aged care experience and offers practical strategies to create safe, empowering and culturally responsive care environments.

Participants will build foundational understanding of trauma-aware and healing-informed care, walkthrough the client journey and explore through a diversity lens. Using real case studies participants will learn how to support older people to feel respected, safe and able to exercise their rights and choices.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise how trauma aware, healing informed and culturally safe care must respond to the

diverse and intersecting experiences of older people.

  • Apply trauma aware and healing informed approaches through the client journey.

  • Identify practical ways to bring the Statement of Rights to life at each stage of the client journey.

  • Share and learn from peer examples of good practice to build confidence and collective capability.

  • Strengthen service delivery through person-centred, rights-based, and trust-building practices
