    Trauma Informed Practice in Education

    Deepen your understanding of trauma and how it impacts a student's ability to learn. Gain practical strategies applicable to everyday practice packaged into an easy to use e-manual. 

    This training will cover; 

    • Introduction to trauma theory
    • How trauma impacts the body and the brain
    • How trauma impacts a student's ability to engage in learning
    • Toolbox of accessible bottom up and top down regulation strategies that can be used in and around the classroom
    • 10 strategies that educators can implement into their own practice to enhance trauma informed learning spaces and relationships.

    You will leave with three electronic resources; an e-manual with all the theory and examples of practical applications of the strategies discussed, an infographic with easy to implement bottom up and top down regulation strategies and a support plan template that can be used with students to identify individualised regulation strategies! 

    Who should attend? 

    This training is tailored to all educators working within a learning space. This includes teachers, education support, wellbeing staff (such as youth workers and social workers), administrators, allied health staff and any other professionals who work within education. Professionals may work in mainstream education, alternative education, specialist settings or TAFE.

    About the facilitator

    Perri Broadbent-Hogan is a teacher whose passion is ensuring young people have access to education regardless of their barriers. She has undergraduate degrees in science and education from La Trobe University and a Master of Education (Student Wellbeing) from the University of Melbourne. The Neurosequential Network acknowledges that Perri Broadbent-Hogan has completed NMT Training Certification through the Phase II level. 

    Perri has authored a book chapter on creating trauma-informed classrooms and written a unit for the Master of Teaching qualification at Victoria University on trauma-informed professional practice for teachers. She has held Deputy Principal and Principal positions across Victoria and Tasmania, including Campus Principal of the largest registered specialist education secondary school in Australia. 

    Perri has focused her teaching career on providing students with biologically-respectful learning opportunities within a trauma-informed classroom setting. She is truly passionate about being in a classroom supporting all young people to learn and finds great joy in teaching other educators to do the same.
