What is trauma informed yoga?

Trauma informed yoga is a form of practice adapted to suit the needs of victim survivors of trauma. Trauma informed yoga acknowledge the neurological impacts of trauma, and high instance of trauma survivors experiencing a disconnection from physical bodies. A heavy focus is placed on the felt sensations and learning to make choices that begin to rebuild trust and connection between mind and body.

What do I bring for the sessions?

Come as you are. We recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing that allow basic movement. Our studio space will provide mat and props as needed.

If there are items such as blanket, pillow or mat that you'd prefer to have for your comfort, you can bring them along for the session. Please arrive 5 minutes before the class.

I have never tried yoga, is this for me?

TIY can be practiced in a chair, couch or a mat. This form of yoga does not involve poses that require excessive physical strength or flexibility. The forms (known as postures in conventional yoga) are simple, basic and suitable for all levels of fitness. You do not require any prior experience in conventional forms of exercise or yoga. Emphasis is placed on the internal experience and not on achieving proper form or posture.

Tell me about Safety and Confidentiality

At SASS, we prioritize safety for all our clients. At the start of each group, we will review a few guidelines to ensure safety. These guidelines will include non-judgement of others, practicing confidentiality of what is said and being mindful of anything that could be triggering to others. TIY service is exclusive to clients of SASS. It is important that as a group we respect each other's privacy and refrain from sharing personal details (such as name, age, occupation etc.) of participants with others who may not be related to or partaking in services offered at SASS.
