TRAVELLING LIGHTLY WITH PRECIOUS CARGO l PRESENTED BY JULIE MONTGARRETT
Event description
This 4-week short-course hosted by textile artist, Julie Montgarrett will explore 4-different styles of stitched textile bags: a Pauper’s Bag; Japanese Tsuno Bukuro and Kimona style bags and variations of folded Afghani – Pashtun coin and tobacco pouches.
For many centuries and across all cultures, people have carried precious items in these kinds of elegantly designed, folded bags. Coins, jewellery, books, medicines, tobacco, food, and even small children were cleverly wrapped for protection for travelling lightly to ward off damage, loss or theft.
No textile skills or knowledge are required.
