Trek & Taste: Let's Talk About Food and Native Plants

Join our guest guide, artist, educator, and culture bearer Lazaro Arvizu, Jr., for an easy walk exploring our human relationship to our indigenous plant relatives. We will strengthen our connection to nature by discussing the importance of respect, recognition, and reciprocity from an Indigenous knowledge perspective.

We’ll use our senses to interact with and sample edible native plants as we unearth a new understanding of their value, sustainability, and nutrition.

Lastly, following a short discussion on plant economy, you’ll receive Native Seeds to highlight the practice of plant-gifting as a way to nurture a relationship with our plant-relatives.

Participant Requirements

Age: 14 and older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration: Advanced registration is required. Every individual, including minors, must be registered. NO WALK UPS.

What to Expect

Location: Back Bay Science Center, 600 Shellmaker Rd, Newport Beach, CA 92660.

Parking & Facilities: Free parking. Bathrooms. Drinking fountains.

What to Bring: Participants should bring water, wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection. Please bring a re-usable cup for the tea tasting.

• Participants must individually sign a liability waiver online, or at the beginning of the event.

• For participants under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver.

• To protect all employees, volunteers, and participants, please do not attend if you are not feeling well, have symptoms of illness or have been in contact with someone who was ill.
