Arts Newstead Launch and Trivia Night

Come and join Arts Newstead for an arts-themed trivia competition, with raffles and prizes throughout the night.

There will be a bar, along with tea, coffee and nibbles.

Hosts ADS and MACCA are Seven Year Veterans of Pub Trivia at the Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine and have come out of retirement just for Arts Newstead! In their real lives they work in beer and retail.

Newstead has long been known as a nurturing place for the arts, with visual art, music and writing among its many creative activities. It is a place where people can begin, reclaim or extend their creative practice, while also having opportunities to share their work, ideas and ongoing exploration with others.

Over the past couple of decades, and before, artists, musicians and writers have been drawn to Newstead and the surrounding district. In response, a number of community-based organisations have grown to help bring this creative work to life.

Behind the exhibitions, festivals, workshops, performances and other activities is a dedicated group of passionate volunteers. Their contribution takes many forms—from serving on committees and mounting exhibitions to putting up marquees, posters and bunting, stacking chairs and cleaning up after events.

While some volunteers come from outside the district, many live in Newstead itself. With a population of approximately 850 people, the pool of available volunteers is relatively small, and the workload can, over time, take its toll on energy and enthusiasm.

Recognising the need to make Newstead’s arts activities more sustainable, four local arts organisations have been working together to find practical ways forward.

This Arts Trivia Night marks the launch of Arts Newstead whilst raising much-needed funds to support its work.
