Join lawyer and women’s refuge worker, Rebecca Hazel, in conversation with Amy Dale to discuss her true crime release, The Schoolgirl, Her Teacher and His Wife.

The Teacher's Pet podcast is a worldwide phenomenon, but before The Australian newspaper commissioned the now famous true crime podcast, lawyer and women’s refuge worker, Rebecca Hazel had started writing a book. After discovering her colleague was the schoolgirl at the centre of the story, Rebecca began investigating the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Northern Beaches local, Lynette Dawson.

Many of Hazel’s discoveries were brought to light when journalist Hedley Thomas asked her to share her insights with The Teacher’s Pet podcast, but her real motivation was always to give a voice to the female victims at the heart of the story.

Never did the author imagine her investigative work would take her from her writer’s desk to the witness stand in the Chris Dawson murder trial.

Rebecca Hazel has worked in family law; in a women and children’s refuge; helped establish and worked in the Women’s Family Law Support Service at the Family Court in Sydney; and briefly in domestic violence policy in Legal Aid.

Amy Dale is an editor, podcast host and author. She is currently the Content and Communications Manager for the Law Society of NSW, and the Managing Editor of the Law Society Journal. Amy is the host of LiSTNR’s Lawfully Explained, a podcast that explores common legal issues. Her book The Fall was published by Penguin in 2014
