Dr Julie Gough

Dr Julie Gough is an artist, writer and curator (First People’s, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery). Gough’s research and artworks art often disclose impacts of colonisation and legacies, including contested histories. Gough’s maternal Briggs-Johnson-Gower family have lived in the Latrobe region of Lutruwita (Tasmania) since the 1840s, with Tebrikunna in north east Lutruwita, their Traditional, Trawlwoolway, Country. Since 1994 Julie has exhibited in more than 220 exhibitions, and her artworks are held in most state and national collections. Gough holds an Honours and a PhD degree from the University of Tasmania (Visual Arts, 1994, 2001), Masters degree (Visual Arts) University of London, Goldsmiths College (1998), Bachelor degrees in Visual Arts (Curtin University, 1995), Prehistory and English literature (University of West Australia, 1987). Publications include Tense Past (Tebrikunna Press, 2021, 2023), Fugitive History (UWA Press) and Shale (A Published Event) both 2018.

Dr Imogen Wegman

Dr Imogen Wegman is a Lecturer in History and the coordinator of the online Family History Program at the University of Tasmania. She researches colonial landscapes and uses historical cartography to understand the relationships between colonisers and the environments they occupied. She teaches the third-year history unit about museums and the interpretation of history, and teaches public history and communication skills into other programs. Imogen is currently finalising a book about the cartographic colonisation of Van Diemen’s Land for Melbourne University Press. For many years, Imogen worked as a tour guide, and she loves to bring history into public spaces.

Dr Toby Juliff

Toby Juliff is an artist, educator, and lecturer whose practice explores the social, cultural, and political dimensions of information, technology, and material culture. Working across contemporary art, research, and teaching, his work investigates how information functions as a material, shaping the ways knowledge is produced, circulated, preserved, and contested.

His teaching encourages students to engage with emerging technologies, archives, networks, and collections while considering the ethical and cultural implications of knowledge production in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

His research interests include digital heritage, archival practices, and the digital repatriation of cultural and natural history collections, with a particular focus on Australian Indigenous perspectives and questions of access, stewardship, and cultural authority. Through both creative and scholarly work, he examines how historical collections can be reinterpreted and reconnected with communities through contemporary technologies.

Toby’s practice is driven by a sustained interest in the relationships between information, memory, place, and identity, bringing together artistic inquiry, critical research, and public engagement to address complex contemporary issues.

Caine Chennatt

Caine is a curator and conflict mediator. He is currently University Librarian and Curatorial Director at the University of Tasmania, working across libraries and galleries to cultivate conditions for learning, encounter, and belonging. His curatorial practice explores expanded ways of knowing, plural cultural identities, imperfect solidarities, and hope. As a mediator, Caine supports people and organisations to disrupt patterns of conflict and strengthen relational intelligence. He is an alumnus of Creative Australia’s International Curators Program and NIDA’s MFA Cultural Leadership. A Churchill Fellow on inclusion, he has previously co-developed access programs within galleries, and currently serves on the boards of Second Echo Ensemble and Contemporary Art Tasmania.
