Description

Come and try out kayaking, canoeing or a stand-up paddle board. New and returning paddlers are welcome. Our coaches will be on hand to help you get an idea of what paddling is all about. They will help you have a safe and fun introduction to canoes/kayaks/paddleboards and let you know about the activities at Forth Canoe Club.

This club "open night" lasts for 2 hours and will give you a chance to try canoe, kayak or paddleboard in a relaxed environment.

See the FAQs for directions to the club, what to bring and more.

Who is this event for?

This session is suitable for complete beginners as well as anyone who has paddled before and want to get back into watersport activities.

Kids 8-15 years of age may attend if accompanied by an adult.

Location

Open sessions run from our boathouse, situated on the bank of the Union Canal at the southern end of Harrison Road.

The nearest Postcode is Polwarth Church - EH11 1LU.

FAQs

  • What shall I bring?

Warm clothes and a change of dry clothes! Depending on the weather this could include a fleece, warm t-shirt/thermal, tracksuit trousers, waterproof trousers, cagoule/windproof, hat and towel. We encourage you to wear footwear, plimsolls or wet-shoes are ideal.

There are changing rooms & a toilet available during this time. We strongly recommend a change of clothes because, although most people are pretty stable in the boats, there is always the chance of falling in and you are likely to get splashed a few times.

  • Where is the boathouse?

The nearest postcode is EH11 1EQ. Enter through the blue gate in the wall beside the canal bridge and descend some steep steps.

  • I can't manage this date: will you be holding more sessions like this?

Yes! We'll have about 2 open nights, or "try it out" sessions per month April to October. Follow us on Humanitix to make sure you hear as soon as bookings are available: https://events.humanitix.com/host/forth-canoe-club

  • Can we share a boat?

We have some 2-person canoes and if you'd like to share you are more than welcome to use one of them.

  • I have another question, who can I contact?

After you have booked, if you have any questions about the event or about the club in general, please contact Alan (course.admin@forthcanoeclub.co.uk). If he can't answer your question he may pass it to the coach running the event or to another committee member.

  • What data do you keep?

Forth Canoe Club will keep a record of members’ names and addresses and contact details on a computer accessible to the Forth Canoe Club Committee. This includes your in-case-of-emergency contact details.

Your record may be inspected by contacting the Membership Secretary. We are affiliated to the SCA and will pass on your data for insurance and membership statistics use. By signing up this course, you are agreeing for Forth Canoe Club to use your contact data in this way if necessary.
