Locals and keen walkers are invited to join Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, and Snowy Valleys Council Mayor, Ian Chaffey, for Tumbatrek 2024.

Held on Saturday 10th February, this year Trekkers will enjoy an epic walk through Bago State Forest along the Hume and Hovell Track amongst the Red Stringybark, Peppermint Box and the giant Alpine Ash, moving downhill over boardwalks and bridges crossing Reef Creek and Duffers Gully as they take in the native scenery under the tree canopy.

Community members can join the trek at a low cost of just $10 per adult and $5 per child, including morning tea and lunch.

An iconic annual event, Tumbatrek provides an informal opportunity for community and government leaders to discuss issues in the region while experiencing the beautiful landscape of the Snowy Valleys region.

This year buses will ferry participants from the Tumbarumba Creekscape to the starting point at Paddys River Dam.

Community registrations are open until Sunday 4 February 2024.

Numbers are limited so don’t delay.

Attendees are advised to bring sunscreen, hat, water, and hand sanitiser with them on the day.

6.15am-6.45am: Registration check in at Hammond Lane, Tumbarumba Creekscape

7am: Buses depart from Hammond Lane

8am: The trek begins, Paddy’s River Dam

10.30am: Morning tea (provided)

Tumbatrek was the original brainchild of the late Tim Fischer AC, former Deputy Prime Minister, who in 1985 along with a few keen locals wanted to promote tourism in the Tumbarumba region. It went into recess in 2007 and was resurrected in 2012 by Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack MP.
