Event description

In March 2020, local bands Tupenny Opera and Wall of Love each released albums, just as COVID-19 brought the curtain down on live music across the world. Around the same time, the owners of Murwillumbah's Citadel were painstakingly putting the finishing touches on their emerging venue, waiting to re-launch it as a hub of music, poetry, unity and community.

On Friday, 27th November, the curtain will rise on this dream as these two original bands come together to finally formally launch their albums in this exquisite local venue.

Join us for an evening of collaboration, celebration and sweet, sweet song...

About the artists

Tupenny Opera

Tupenny Opera are Dave Weir and Maya Sapir. For the past 14 years audiences from Australia to Europe, in the Middle East and America have enjoyed their quirky, eclectic mix of original songs. From Burlesque opera to highly inventive pop, from the romantic to the political, they cover a gamut of human experiences with a dramatic flair. After many years of playing together their mutual sympathy as performers is evident in their finely crafted songs and engaging performances.

Wall of Love

Wall of Love are a band of musical friends from Northern NSW whose strength lies in their songwriting, and a commitment to coming together for the sheer love of sharing their music. Their sound spans everything from folk to alt country, to Buddhist blues and good old-fashioned pop. The music they make together is unsurprisingly eclectic and delightfully melodic. Underneath, lies a common thread of sweet harmony, which is all about the love. The band has just released their debut self-titled album and are chuffed by the recent addition to their sound of saxophonist Joe Landers.
