ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Mark Spencer was a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney between 1989 and 2005, when he and his wife Becca left Sydney to live in the Coffs Harbour region and are members of the Coffs Harbour Rotary Club. Mark continued his practice of dentistry until last year, when he retired to concentrate on his other loves – diving and underwater photography and Becca.

Mark has been a dedicated ocean diver and explorer. He led the 1998 Navy-supported expedition to Turkey’s Sea of Marmara in 1998 to positively identify and document Australia’s WW1 submarine AE2, located at a depth of 72 metres.

Mark will recount a following expedition to Turkey in 2010 with maritime archaeologist Tim Smith to survey and document the maritime heritage off Anzac Cove. He will also briefly talk about his book “Ocean of Self” (www.oceanofself.com) which summarises his decades of experiences diving in the ocean and how these experiences hint of a greater depth to our own being.

We look forward to welcoming Mark back to the club to talk about his fascinating diving experiences.
