Poet and military veteran Khadijah Queen joined the Navy to escape poverty and despair. Aboard a destroyer, she encountered relentless sexual harassment and racism. She sought refuge in the written word. Queen’s new memoir, “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” has been described as “unflinching and masterfully penned” and revealing “the true price of being a woman at sea.”
