Twelfth Night: or What You Will
Event description
Who knew that gender could be so confusing?
Shakespeare’s bittersweet comedy of mistaken identity, told in all it’s fabulously queer glory.
Viola finds herself stranded and alone in a strange place. For her own safety, she dresses as a man, and gets a job working for Orsino. Orsino is in love with Olivia, and Viola falls in love with Orsino, and he falls in love with her thinking she’s a man, then Olivia also falls in love with her thinking she’s a man. Then Viola’s twin brother Sebastian rocks up – who is loved by the pirate Antonio – and things get even messier…
But then the course of true love never did run smooth.
“As I am man,
My state is desperate for my master’s love;
As I am woman -- now alas the day! --
What thriftless sighs shall poor Olivia breathe!”
