Twice bitten, still standing: Tasmanian Devils coexisting with two cancers
Description
Join Rodrigo Hamede, senior lecturer in Wildlife Ecology at the University of Tasmania, for an update on the remarkable story of Tasmanian devils living with two transmissible cancers.
Over the past two decades, scientists have uncovered extraordinary examples of resilience, adaptation and coexistence with DFT1. Whether Tasmanian devils can develop similar resilience to DFT2 is now one of the most important challenges facing devil conservation.
Discover what these diseases are teaching us about evolution and cancer resilience, and how local communities across Southern Tasmania and helping scientists use citizen science, AI and modern genomics to protect Tasmania's top predator.
Event is free, registration essential.
This University of Tasmania event is held in conjunction with Kingborough Council.
