Twilight Nature Discovery Tour for the 2025 Great Southern Bioblitz
Event description
Join us for a unique evening of insect and wildlife discovery at the Malvern Valley Golf Course and be part of the 2025 Great Southern Bioblitz!
As part of Stonnington's participation in the 2025 Great Southern Bioblitz together with Councils across Greater Melbourne, we're holding a second Twilight Nature Discovery Tour at the beautiful Malvern Valley Golf Course.
The tour will include:
a guided walk with a Council horticultural expert through the biodiverse landscape of the course
moth and spotlighting activities after dark with entomologist Dr Luis Mata to find and identify insects, moths and other nocturnal wildlife.
Throughout the event, attendees will be supported and encouraged to submit any photos or sounds recordings of wildlife observed to the free iNaturalist app.
What to bring:
a smartphone or camera to take photos or make sound recordings of insects or wildlife
attendees are encouraged to download the iNaturalist app from Apple App Store or Google Play before the event and set up your free account (watch our 2021 iNaturalist training video to learn more about using the app)
comfortable walking shoes suitable for uneven terrain and weather-appropriate clothing
a torch or headlamp
Bookings are essential as spaces are limited.
More about the Great Southern Bioblitz (24-27 October 2025)
Between Friday 24 and Monday 27 October, you’re invited to join communities across the Southern Hemisphere to find, photograph and share any wild flora and fauna you observe in Stonnington using the iNaturalist app.
Your observations during the 4 day-challenge will contribute to important citizen science data collection to help deepen understanding of life in our urban environment.
You can take part anywhere in Stonnington or across Greater Melbourne during the 4-day challenge, so get outdoors and get involved!
To learn more, visit GSB 2025 | SouthernBioBlitz or follow Greater Melbourne's participation on the global leaderboard.
