Join us for this exciting talk from two finance professionals at Genesis, as a part of the UC Finance Professional Speaker series. This talk will help you understand careers with Genesis and the energy sector in general, relevant to Finance or Financial Engineering graduates. On top of our speakers, whose bios you can find below, we are accompanied by some members of the Genesis Talent Acquisition Team. Food and drinks will be offered after during networking.

  • Emma Oettli - General Manager - Portfolio

    Emma joined Genesis Energy in October 2020 as the General Manager Planning and Reporting. She subsequently served as the Interim Chief Financial Officer and General Manager Retail Finance, before joining the Wholesale leadership team in November 2024. Emma has more than 20 years’ experience in a range of sectors including oil and gas, retail, and finance. In her current role as General Manager – Portfolio, Emma is responsible for maximising the value of Genesis Energy as a vertically integrated energy company. The portfolio team strategically manages supply and demand, across multiple time horizons to optimise group gross margin while maintaining an acceptable risk appetite. Emma is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a master’s degree in management accounting from Auckland University. In August 2024, Emma completed the Stanford Executive Program.

  • Tim Dobbs - General Manager - Trading

    Tim joined Genesis in June 2024, bringing over 20 years of experience in commodity trading and risk management across both domestic and international markets. As General Manager Trading, Tim leads a team responsible for monetising Genesis’s portfolio of flexible generation assets in the New Zealand electricity wholesale market. This includes short-term (intra-day) trading and the management of financial derivatives to optimise commercial outcomes. Before joining Genesis, Tim held senior leadership roles at Fonterra Co-operative Group, where he oversaw teams focused on pricing, portfolio management, and data and analytics. Earlier in his career, he worked in consulting roles across the UK and Europe, specialising in energy market modelling, trading, and risk management. Tim holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours (First Class) in Management Science and Operations Research from the University of Canterbury.
