UN@75: Human Rights DayÂ
The United Nations Association of New Zealand (UNA NZ) will mark the 72nd Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with a seminar entitled Human Rights in the face of COVID-19 and Global Climate Crisis: Challenges and opportunities for the Pacific Region.
This seminar will be held on Thursday, 10 December 2020, 5.30pm- 7.30pm, in the Banquet Hall at the New Zealand Parliament. We are delighted to announce the Minister for Climate Change, Hon. James Shaw as the keynote speaker. The Minister will be joined by other excellent speakers including Climate Change specialist Dr Nathan Ross and VUW Senior Research Fellow in Epidemiology Dr Mona Jeffreys.
The President of the UNA NZ Peter Nichols will chair and Special Officer for Human Rights Dr Paula Pereda-Perez will moderate the seminar, which will address the following topics:
- COVID-19 and its human rights dimensions in the Pacific Region
- COVID-19 and climate change: hopes and challenges for future pandemics in the era of global warming
- Climate change and human rights: opportunities to rethink our relationship with the environment.Â

We will observe COVID-19 safety practices and if alert levels should change we will be in touch about postponement or cancellation.Â
