“Paul McCarthy’s Pollockian near-hour long satirical video, Painter from 1995 popped into my head as one tangential reference point. Here, McCarthy embodies a heroically-tormented-male-painter-as-genius, dressed in a painting smock and performing exaggerated, slapstick gestures. The work so clearly demonstrates that art and practice never happen alone in the studio but through conversation, collective activity, and exchanging thinking and research. We hope this gesture invites a sort of radical transparency to how art workers, artists and the like have come into their practices.” - Hilary Thurlow
