Do you need to hold a leadership position to be a leader? Can you empower other women without a fancy job title? How do we break the glass ceiling for good?

Our panelists will explore the concept of leading from anywhere and the importance of passing ladders down and sideways to help other women climb.

Empowering Women Everywhere is about recognising that no matter where you are from, what you do now, or where you want to be in the future, you are a leader who can create opportunities for others.

Through the theme 'Empowering Women Everywhere', we are coming together to celebrate women's strength, perseverance, and determination. This UN Women dinner aims to recognise the importance of unity and the support we provide to each other.

About our panellists:

Saba Abraham (Mama Saba) is a community leader and the founder of the social enterprize, Mu'ooz Restaurant and Catering. Through Mu'ooz, Saba provides training and employment opportunities to female refugees in Australia. For women who have suffered traumatic experiences of war and poverty and had little chance of education, Mu'ooz provides employment and new opportunities that help the healing process. To date, Saba has directly given work experience, training, and employment to more than 300 women!
Dr. Terry Fitzsimmons is an Associate Professor in Leadership at the University of Queensland (UQ) and the Managing Director of the Australian Gender Equality Council. Terry's research has explored the differing CEO pathways for men and women, the impact of gender stereotypes on the confidence and career pathways of school students, and much, much more. He regularly advises workplaces on their diversity programs, and has worked closely with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) on several key initiatives.
Ellie Atkinson is a partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) in Brisbane. Having studied Civil Engineering at Cardiff University in the late 90s, she's well-versed in surviving and thriving in male-dominated industries. Ellie has climbed the ranks of the world's most prominent engineering and consulting firms - Arup and EY. Today she leads the Energy Transition team at PwC, advising public and private sector organisations as they evolve toward a net-zero future.
