    Event description

    Join the United Nations Association of New Zealand (UNA NZ) - Wellington Branch on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5:30 - 7pm for International Women’s Day.

    The event is being held in Room MZ02, Rutherford House, Pipitea Campus, Victoria University. MZ02 is located on the first floor of Rutherford House. There will also be signs and people to help show you where the room is on the day.

    The theme for this year's event is "Count her in: Invest in Women. Accelerate progress" and will consist of a three person panel discussion followed by questions and an open discussion.

    Non-alcoholic refreshments will be served at the event. Students, non-waged and UNA NZ member tickets are $10. Waged non-UNA NZ member tickets are $15.

    There is an option to join online. Online tickets are $5. People who sign up to attend online will be sent a link the day before the event.


    Panelists:

    First panelist - Suzanne Manning.

    Suzanne Manning is the President of Te Kaunihera Wāhine o Aotearoa | The National Council of Women of New Zealand, an organisation that has been advocating for women’s rights for 128 years. She has an eclectic background, with a science degree in biochemistry, a diploma in management, a Master of Education, and a PhD in Educational policy and history. Her working experience is a mix of unpaid and paid roles, including a 20 year ‘career’ in Playcentre which is Aotearoa’s early childhood education parent cooperative service, retail experience in a science toy shop, student support at Whitireia polytechnic, and social research at a Crown Research Institute. Suzanne is passionate about creating positive social change and eliminating discrimination and inequality. Opinions shared today are her own, although consistent with the views of NCWNZ.

    Second panelist – Natasha Jolly.

    Natasha Jolly is a dynamic Peace & Justice educator, researcher, and analyst, currently shaping youth justice policy in the public sector with a keen focus on post-conflict transitional justice and gender transformative approaches to combat sexual and gender-based violence. Her background as a doctoral researcher and teaching fellow/lecturer at renowned institutions like the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic has honed her expertise at the nexus of gender, law, crime, and social justice. With a legal foundation from India and specialization in public international law in the United Kingdom, Natasha has lent her skills to prominent national and international organizations including UNICEF India and the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.


    Third panelist - Joy Dunsheath MNZM JP.

    Joy Dunsheath has contributed to human rights, gender equality and sustainable development in New Zealand and overseas for more than 40 years. She is Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of UN Associations (WFUNA) which is based in New York and Geneva. She is a former National President of the UNA NZ and an Honorary Life Member. Her objective is to promote the three pillars of the United Nations – human rights, peace and security, and development.
