Uncertain Endings Workshop: Clothes Out of Context
Event description
Drawn from the Bonfire of the Vanities body of work, 'Clothes Out of Context' reimagines garments from history in surprising new ways.
What’s involved?
Participants will look closely at historical clothing, strip away familiar narratives, and use language as a tool for fresh interpretation. Through rapid design ideation—paper collage, drawing, draping, and fabric play—descriptions will transform into imaginative visual experiments.
This back-and-forth between words and making sparks unexpected ideas and reveals how language shapes our view of fashion. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and an openness to rethink what clothing can mean, past and present.
What to bring?
Materials will be provided, however if you have a preferred medium for drawing, writing or documenting outcomes please bring it along!
Where is it?
This workshop is held as part of the exhibition Uncertain Endings at Dark Horse Experiment, 400 Spencer St, West Melbourne. You’ll be able to browse the exhibition during the workshop, taking inspiration from the garments and textile works on display.
