UnCharitable film screening for the for-purpose sector
Event description
Join us for a screening of UnCharitable, the documentary redefining the way we think about charity and social change.
Facilitated by Social Impact Hub, supported by an anonymous Private Ancillary Fund in Queensland, and screened in collaboration with Philanthropy Australia, this event has been designed for not-for-profit organisations, charities and social enterprises in Queensland to attend.
The screening will be followed by a short panel discussing the themes highlighted in the documentary for philanthropy and the for-purpose sector in Australia.
About the film
Based on Dan Pallotta's groundbreaking book and viral TED Talk that introduced a radical new way of thinking about giving, UnCharitable is a powerful feature-length 90-minute documentary film built to deliver social and environmental change for good across the globe.
The film exposes the fact that there are two rule books, one for the for-profit sector and one for the not-for-profit sector; and the rules that govern not-for-profits make it impossible for them to solve the world's biggest challenges.
The UnCharitable film delivers thought-provoking insights packaged to move, persuade and inspire UnCharitable's audiences into action.
Strategic screenings are being facilitated by Social Impact Hub across Australia and New Zealand as part of our regional UnCharitable Impact Campaign supported by an anonymous Private Ancillary Fund in Queensland. We do hope you are able to join us.

Panelists:
- Richard Warner, CEO, Nundah Community Enterprises Cooperative (NCEC)
Richard is passionate about social change, believing that those who are disadvantaged deserve a role, a say, and a fair share of opportunity. He views social enterprise as a powerful vehicle for including individuals and communities facing exclusion and enabling them to achieve a good life.
His professional training is in Social Work and Community Development, and he has worked alongside people with intellectual disabilities and those from refugee backgrounds for more than twenty-five years. For the past fifteen years, he has served as the CEO of Nundah Co-op, which was awarded Best Australian Social Enterprise in 2015 and 2020. He also co-founded the Queensland Social Enterprise Council (QSEC), Australia’s first member-based peak organisation, serving as its Secretary and Chair.
Outside of work, he practices and teaches meditation in a Zen tradition and is an enthusiastic gardener. He is also a bilateral cochlear implantee. - Tara Castle, CEO, Queensland Gives
Tara Castle is the Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Gives by Queensland Community Foundation, a $151M charitable trust and community foundation set up in 1997 by former Queensland Premier Mike Ahern AO.
Over the past seven years, Tara has overseen the trust's growth from $90M to $150M funds under management, and positioned philanthropy as an achievable and important part of the social fabric in Queensland. Tara is a connector of people and causes, a passionate believer that everyone can be a philanthropist.
Tara has managed social responsibility programs for small to medium enterprises and multinational corporations, and provided strategic fundraising consultancy support helping to raise millions of dollars for not-for-profits across Australia.
Away from the office, Tara has led many a crazy project for social good. She was a co-founder of the Milton Community Garden, a microfinance team captain facilitating over $85k in loans, a nonprofit cookbook creator that raised $130k for the RBWH Foundation, and an annual charity event in her ‘spare time’ raising $300k for local causes to support vulnerable women and girls.
Tara is passionate about nature, and has a goal to climb 50 mountains before she is 50 (she is currently up to 40-something). And is part of the founding group running the inaugural Queensland Environment Day. - Kim Harland, Director, Engagement Qld/NT, Philanthropy Australia

About Social Impact Hub
Social Impact Hub is a purpose-driven intermediary on a mission to accelerate change so that we can live in a purpose-driven world where the people and planet thrive. Through advice, education, mobilising capital and ecosystem building, Social Impact Hub builds the capacity to amplify impact.
As an intermediary in the Australian impact space for almost a decade, Social Impact Hub has an exclusive license for the UnCharitable film in Australia and New Zealand.
Our aim: to mobilise decision-makers across the region in philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector, to shift the discourse from overheads as a tool for accountability to overheads as an investment in impact.
The outcome we want to see: for people to change the way they think about giving, removing the constraints on not-for-profits that undermine their full potential.
