Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskey Tasting with Cocktail
Event description
Women Who Whiskey Los Angeles invites you to celebrate Black History Month and the legacy of the first Black master distiller in U.S. history with a tasting of three Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskeys and a cocktail on SUNDAY AFTERNOON, February 11 from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the woman-owned Truman House Tavern in San Fernando.
California Market Manager Matt Carlson (a long-time friend of our chapter!) will taste us through the following trio of award-winning whiskeys:
- Uncle Nearest 1884: Gold -- 2023 World Whiskies Awards
- Uncle Nearest 1856: Double Gold -- 2023 Women's Wine & Spirits Awards
- Uncle Nearest Straight Rye: Trophy, Best USA Whiskey -- 2023 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition
We'll also enjoy a cocktail made with Uncle Nearest 1884; Truman House Tavern proprietor Joeleen Medina will serve a tasty charcuterie spread.
Uncle Nearest is named for Nathan “Nearest” Green, a formerly enslaved man who taught his distilling techniques to Jack Daniel and was the first master distiller for the Jack Daniel Distillery, as well as the first Black master distiller in the U.S.
We'll view a 10 minute documentary about Nearest Green narrated by actor Jeffrey Wright: Primetime Emmy winner, Tony Award winner, and Golden Globe winner.
We look forward to sipping Uncle Nearest whiskey with you and learning more about the man who inspired it!
