Description

Under+Over Printed+Stitched is a half-day textile-based workshop that explores the idea of creative collaboration.

Based in the Blue Mountains, textile artists and seasoned teachers Julie Paterson and Pippita Bennett have been sharing ideas and passing artworks back and forth for the past 12 months.

They've been dyeing with local plants, drawing with crayons & thread, printing & stitching, layering & mending, subtracting & adding, eventually slow-stitching their way towards creating a rich and layered new body of shared work, all in the spirit of open, intuitive cooperation.

So when they were invited to have a residency and exhibition at the National Trust's Everglades in Leura, they both felt it would be a great thing to develop a workshop or two, where the participants get a taste of this unique, collaborative process. These workshops will be held in the heart of the residency/ gallery space at Everglades, and participants will have the opportinity to show their work alongside Julie and Pippita's work for the final show on November 14.

The Under+Over workshops will be an open-ended, experimental few hours where participants get to take home one or two, probably unfinished, textile pieces - almost ready to hang.

NB - Much of the work in the exhibition will be unfinished works in progress, because this is how Pip and Julie like to roll.
