Under the Same Moon: A Women's Moonlit Story Walk

Walk Together Under the Full Moon

On the evening of the full moon, join a gentle, unhurried walk along Birrarung in the company of women gathering in connection, reflection and community.

Beginning at the Main Gate of Abbotsford Convent (off St Heliers Street), we'll walk together to Dights Falls, pausing along the way for an Acknowledgement of Country, guided story stations led by Yadira Perez (Doc Yadi), moments of quiet reflection, and a closing circle of gratitude before returning to the convent gates.

This walk is especially for women of the diaspora, mothers and daughters who carry culture across generations, and all women who have stood beside a river and felt something they couldn't quite name.

This free community event offers space to slow down, connect with Birrarung and share an intimate experience under the light of the full moon.

Please note: A limited number of lanterns will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own light source, such as a headlamp, torch or fully charged mobile phone, to help illuminate the walk.

Before you book…

  • Most Riverfest events are free, and many have limited places with long waitlists. Please only book if you're confident you can attend, so others don't miss out. Bookings are limited to 2 tickets for smaller events and 4 tickets for larger events.

  • Can't make it? Please cancel your ticket by opening your Humanitix confirmation email and selecting 'Manage Order'. Your place will then be released to someone on the waitlist. If you need assistance, contact us by email: riverfest@yarrariver.org.au

  • Events will proceed unless severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances require a change. If this happens, registered participants will be notified by email.

Accessibility

Meeting point: Please meet at the Main Gate of Abbotsford Convent (off St Heliers Street), where the walk will begin at 7:00 pm. We'll also return to this location at the end of the evening. An image of the meeting point is included below to help you find us.

The walk follows the mostly flat, paved Yarra River Trail from the Abbotsford Convent gates to Dight Falls and back (approximately 2.5 km), making it suitable for most mobility levels.

Please wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing suitable for the weather.

Please note there is some uneven ground near the river's edge. If you have specific accessibility requirements or would like to discuss how we can support your participation, please contact the event host before the event.

For safety, and to preserve the reflective nature of the walk, the event is not recommended for children under 12. Older children and teenagers are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We welcome people of all abilities. If you have any accessibility requirements or need assistance to participate, please contact us before the event so we can discuss how we can support your attendance.

Photography & Videography

Please note that photos and videos may be taken during this event for promotional and archival purposes. By attending, you consent to being photographed or filmed, with the possibility of your image being used in event-related publications, websites and social media, including by La Story Shifter for its storytelling platform and community storytelling initiatives.

If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please let a member of the event team know when you arrive. We'll be happy to accommodate your wishes.
