This full day workshop is designed for people who want to learn how to influence the behaviours of others, for positive change.

The morning session will provide you with introductory understandings of ‘system 1 and 2’ thinking, with the provision of tools and examples to support your ability to influence people to change their behaviours for the better, whether in public health, the environment or to address social challenges. We will draw on leading theoretical and applied models of psychology, behavioural sciences and behavioural economics, and brainstorm how to apply them to decode behavioural influence and solve behavioural problems.

We will examine how to define behaviours and establish clear behavioural goals, and briefly touch on behavioural selection.

In the afternoon, participants will take part in a hands-on interactive session where they apply the components of The BCC’s Behavioural Framework to a shared behavioural problem and brainstorm how to select the right intervention levers from behavioural data. Participants will then have the opportunity to further practice the process of behavioural diagnosis, beginning with a focus on defining and selecting behaviours and writing clear behavioural goals.

The workshop will also provide participants with an overview of behavioural and audience segmentation, the levers mix for intervention design, and how to identify which levers to apply.

Who should attend

This training is for anyone keen to learn how to influence others to achieve positive change. Attendees typically come from local and state government, non-profits, charities, social enterprises and/or academia.

Trainers

Luke van der Beeke, Co-Founder and Managing Director
Luke is an internationally recognised expert in behaviour change marketing and communications with almost 30 years’ experience in Australia and overseas. He has delivered behaviour change programs, training and advice to world governments and organisations including the WHO, Pan American Health Organisation, European Commission, Department for International Development and USAID.

He is a former technical advisor (social marketing) to the Strategic Review of Health Inequalities in England, and for three years’ managed the Department of Health England’s social marketing capacity building program for the National Health Service (NHS). Since returning to Perth in 2012, Luke has worked collaboratively with like-minded individuals and organisations to improve health, environmental and societal outcomes for individuals and communities. Luke is a Board Member of the Australian Association of Social Marketing and Australian Health Promotion Association, a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, and an Adjunct Research Fellow at Curtin University (Public Health) and Social Marketing @ Griffith.

Donna van Bueren, Director Behavioural Insight
Donna is a highly regarded strategic advisor and practitioner, with over 30 years’ experience working with governments in Australia and overseas. She has an extensive record of consulting and delivering projects in behaviour change, citizen engagement and government communications capability across Australia, Singapore, the UAE and Saudi Arabia and, through collaboration, into developing countries. She has worked for more than two decades with behavioural theories and models of influence, and specialises in their application across both Western and Middle Eastern contexts and socio-demographic settings.
