Join Andrew Turbill, avian ecologist, for a workshop exploring the ecology of Bell Miner Associated Dieback (BMAD) and its effects on the forests of south-eastern Australia.

Event details:

Bell Miners are a native Australian songbird, but under certain conditions they can become associated with widespread forest decline. This workshop, hosted by South East Local Land Services will examine how changes to forest structure and ecosystem processes can contribute to BMAD, the ecological consequences of dieback, and what landholders can do to improve forest health and resilience.

Drawing on research and practical experience, Andrew will explore the complex relationships between Bell Miners, psyllids (lerps), forest disturbance and understorey vegetation, and discuss lessons learned from management programs across New South Wales.

Topics will include:

Bell Miner ecology and behaviour
The causes and symptoms of Bell Miner Associated Dieback
The role of psyllids (lerps) and forest disturbance
Ecological impacts of BMAD on native forests
Treatment and restoration options for affected sites
Experiences and case studies from BMAD management projects

The workshop will also include visits to nearby sites where participants can observe forest condition first-hand, discuss site assessment, and explore practical management options in the field.

Suitable for landholders, Landcare members, bush regenerators and anyone interested in improving the health and resilience of local forests.

Additional details:

Registrations are limited to 30 to ensure a practical learning environment.
Lunch will be provided.
