This is free training for people currently working in designated family/carer lived experience (LE) roles in Victorian-funded public mental health services (including Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect Centres and Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals). This is an introductory training and designed for those in their first few years of family carer lived experience work. Priority will be given to family carer lived experience workers who have less than 2 years' experience in a family carer LE designated role. Spaces are limited to 2 staff places per organisation. Please note, if you do register and it is not clear you are part of the intended audience, your registration will be confirmed prior to the event.

This introductory training is a pilot of a training program being developed for the family / carer lived experience workforce.

On the completion of this module, you will be able to:

Reflect on your experiences as a family/carer
Discuss ways in which others’ caring experiences are similar or different to yours
Express some of the diversity of family/carer experiences and needs
Access key support and information services for families and carers
Describe recovery as it relates to family/carers
Describe the family/carer movement and advocacy messages
Describe one source of further information about families and carers

This course is delivered online. Sessions are hosted via Zoom.

Jacqui Hill - Family/Carer Workforce Development Coordinator, CMHL

Joining the family/carer lived experience workforce in 2017, Jacqui worked at St Vincent’s Mental Health in a Carer Consultant role and at Tandem, in a Carer Lived Experience Advisor role. She is an active member of the CLEW – Carer Lived Experience Workforce Network and Tandem – Victorian Peak supporting families, carers and supporters. Committed to ensuring quality training to all areas of family/carer LEWs, Jacqui has developed and delivered training in various forms, across the MH workforce. Her expertise is her family/carer LE perspective and passion for ensuring new workforce have access to training, information and resources, to enable them to grow sustainable and safe lived experience workplace practices and career pathways.

Kelle Reid - Family/Carer Workforce Development Coordinator, CMHL

Kelle previously worked as a Carer Consultant in the 0-25 age group and as Lived Experience Educator (Carer), at a regional health service. She has developed and delivered training to clinical and Lived Experience staff on the family carer perspective for many years. Kelle has lived experience as a carer for young family members with mental health challenges, neurodivergence and disability, along with experience in navigating the public and private mental health systems and the NDIS. She believes all recovery is relational and is motivated in her work by radical acceptance, human rights and neurodivergent pride. Kelle is passionate about young people, their families/carers and improving the mental health system to support them.
