Understanding Positive Behaviour Support: A Guide for Speech Pathologists
Event description
Have you ever wondered what a behaviour support practitioner actually does, what training they have, or what is really inside a behaviour support plan? Have you ever experienced confusion (or even frustration) working alongside behaviour support practitioners that left you wondering how best to engage and collaborate for the best outcomes for your clients?
This free, 90-minute session is designed to demystify the role of the behaviour support practitioner in the NDIS landscape. We will explore the training, backgrounds, and capability requirements of BSPs, as well as what actually goes into a behaviour support plan (and what should). It will suit speech pathologists at all stages of their career who find themselves working alongside behaviour support practitioners in the NDIS or even those who are interested in exploring a role shift into the PBS space.
In the first hour, we will explore:
The role and training of behaviour support practitioners
What a behaviour support plan should include (and why)
The legal and regulatory requirements under the NDIS
Common points of overlap with speech pathology, including AAC and behaviours of concern
Practical tips for building strong, collaborative relationships between PBS and speech pathology
In the second half, we will open the floor for Q&A and discussion. It is an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and explore constructive approaches to collaboration between PBS and speech pathology.
Takeaway: By the end of the session, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of behaviour support, greater confidence in navigating PBS, and practical strategies for working together effectively. When PBS and speech pathology work together, participants benefit.
