Mon, 26 Oct, 7pm - 9pm EDT

Description

This session supports practitioners to use the Power and Control Wheel to recognise family violence as a pattern of behaviours used to establish and maintain power and control, rather than focusing only on individual incidents.

The session explores how perpetrators may use migration status, racism, isolation, language barriers, financial dependence, family and community relationships, cultural expectations and other structural inequalities as part of patterns of abuse.

The session is grounded in cultural humility and intersectional practice, encouraging practitioners to remain curious, avoid assumptions about culture and consider how multiple forms of power and inequality can shape a woman's experience of violence, safety and help-seeking.
