Understanding "Reasonable Likelihood" in the NRS
Description
Every National Redress Scheme application is judged against a standard called "reasonable likelihood". Is there a "reasonable likelihood" that the survivor is eligible? The bar is lower than court, but how an application is put together can still shape the outcome. Knowing what the Scheme's Independent Decision Makers may be looking for helps put Redress Support Workers in a stronger position to support survivors.
In this webinar, Knowmore will explain the "reasonable likelihood" standard in plain language and look at recent decision trends, including why some applications about schools have been found ineligible. We will also share practical ways to help survivors give the information needed.
RSS workers will learn:
- What reasonable likelihood means and what Decision Makers must consider
- What recent decisions, including those about schools, can tell us
- How to support survivors to give enough information for their application
Pre-registration is required to attend this session. Registration closes 1 hour before the webinar commences. The webinar will be recorded and made available to workers.
