Why are so many youth in trouble with anxiety, depression, ADHD, are overly medicated, and struggling with wanting to be alive? Because we not approaching youth mental health in the appropriate way. We are focusing on the BEHAVIOURS, when we need to be focusing on why they are in so much MENTAL/EMOTIONAL PAIN.

Maroochy North Shore Lions is partnering with Jazzmyn Lyon of “Magic beyond Words” to present this workshop. Jazzmyn has a Master of Health Science in Speech Language Pathology and is a Wellbeing Facilitator with over 14 years of extensive experience in providing these techniques in Canada. She is in Australia on a State Sponsored Skills Visa in recognition of her qualifications and experience.

We all need to hear the same message. As adults, we are the root, and the kids are the tree. When we understand ourselves better we will understand our kids better, be better educators and parents, and therefore will be able to help our youth in the ways they need.

The main topic of the Workshop is “Understanding the Mind”. Understanding how our mind works is essential to move from mental disease to mental health. Mental ill health is the main contributor to youth wanting to end their lives. The signs are not always clear, and we need to know what to look out for.

Jazzmyn will discuss:

-effective tools to recognise at risk youth and prevent suicide

-the origins of a troubled mind and techniques to free the mind from self-destructive, negative thinking

-practical and supportive tools to create a healthy mindset

-understanding where our thoughts come from, how to manage them, and what shapes our personality
