Event description

Title: Understanding the “why” of behavior: An intersection between sensory processing, trauma, and autism

When: November 23, 24, 2023

Where:  In-Person or Virtual Livestream

Description: Therapists, educators and parents are noting that behaviors across a continuum of diagnostic categories are ever increasing in numbers. Therapists have many wonderful ideas to support goals and growth for developmental delay, if only they could get the “behaviors” under control! This workshop will explore behavior from several different frames of references to support the clinical thinking process. Included will be a hierarchical overview from a developmental lens and its impact on different aspects of academic, social, and emotional performance areas. The impact of attachment and trauma is immense, and the guiding principles of intervention will be helpful to all. Included will be a discussion on neurodivergence in autistic populations and the importance of hearing everyone’s voice through using mindfulness as an approach to intervention.  Practical ideas will be shared throughout, and the participant will feel equipped with multiple practical ideas to consider in intervention. This workshop is applicable for interdisciplinary teams as well as across the ages and stages continuum of development. It is a one-of-a-kind workshop that is not to be missed!

Bio: Maude is a globally known presenter on a variety of different topics. She hails from South Africa, graduated in 1984, and opened her private practice in Glen Mills, USA in 2001. All her work and training stems from the theory of Sensory Integration, as it applies to all areas of functional every-day living. Maude travels extensively across the globe as she is a respected speaker at multiple workshops and conferences. She opened the Maude Le Roux Academy in January 2019 as her travel schedule disallowed her the pleasure of feeling “grounded” in her own home! Maude accomplished multiple certifications throughout the years and continues her journey of being a life- long learner. She believes in giving back to her community and has served on the Board of Directors for ATTACh for the past 7 years. Maude co-authored the book, Our Greatest Allies, with Lauren O’Malley and hopes to find the time in the next 5 years to finish another book she has been laboring over. Her wish is for every therapist to come fully into their own being, be their authentic selves, so their clients can also transition from sometimes fragmented places to a new sense of wholeness.

I appreciate your teaching methods. Your passion and expertise is obvious in the way you present the information. I look forward to learning more with you through other courses! Simone Le Claire Canada

Every single member of our team has not stopped talking about how invaluable this course was. In fact, pieces from the course are quoted daily by our staff in the classrooms and on the corridors. It has really refreshed our approach at looking at things and reminded us about the importance of understanding the why. Thank you for all you do in helping us step into the world of these incredible minds. It really is a blessing to learn from you and alongside you! Kirstin Price – South Africa

Maude is an excellent instructor. I love her ability to make the participants feel included even through an online platform. She creates an atmosphere where everyone can feel safe to participate in discussions and provide support with clinical reasoning to build the bridge from theory to practice. I really enjoy attending her courses.
