Tue, 13 Oct, 3:30pm - 6:15pm NZDT

Description

A hands-on opportunity to explore the exciting learning tools and resources from https://mm2.net.nz/ project, led by its creator, Dr Sally Carsen. This is a very special PD opportunity showcasing ways schools can collect and use data to help better protect and connect with Porirua Harbour and coastlines. Gumboots, outdoor gear, and a good dollop of curiosity required!

During this teacher training session, you’ll get hands-on and learn how to:

  • Engage with simple activities that build observation skills and environmental awareness

  • Participate in environmental action through seashore monitoring using the Marine metre2 project

  • Use your data to investigate questions of local significance

These activities will help students build a sense of place with our coast, collect real data about their local environment, and discover how they can use that knowledge to care for our moana.

This session is valuable for both primary and secondary teachers and educators working across the area. Spaces are limited to 2 people per group/school and on a first come first served basis so don't forget to register.
