Event description

Children's Autism Foundation (now proudly integrated with Autism NZ) presents "Understanding Autism", a workshop for parents/caregivers, support workers, teachers, teacher aides and any professionals who engage with children and young people on the autism spectrum.

You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of autism and with simple strategies to support your child or the children you work with.

This workshop is excellent for parents/caregivers of children who have recently received an ASD diagnosis, or for families on the pathway to diagnosis.  Professionals who attend this workshop tell us that they leave feeling more able to support the autistic children & young people they work with.

Topics include:

  • What is autism & how is autism diagnosed?
  • What does autism look like in children & young people?
  • Understanding communication and sensory differences.
  • Identifying strengths in autistic children & young people.
  • Practical strategies & tips for parenting and supporting autistic children & young people.

Plus plenty of time for Q&A at the end of the session.
