Join Indigenous artist Possum (Renee) Rose for a special three-hour painting workshop exploring creative techniques for building rich, layered backgrounds with acrylic while creating a vibrant underwater scene.

Presented as part of the Her Voice: Stories of Strength & Identity exhibition, this workshop celebrates artistic storytelling and creative exploration while highlighting the work of women artists in recognition of International Women's Day.

This session focuses on techniques for building rich, atmospheric backgrounds using this unique material. The new Belle Arti Fabriano Water Colour Paper Canvas combines the texture and strength of traditional canvas with the absorbency and versatility of fine art paper, allowing artists to achieve beautiful layering, fluid colour movement, and expressive mark-making.

Guided by Possum Rose, participants will experiment with these techniques while creating their own underwater-inspired painting, exploring light, movement, and colour beneath the ocean's surface.

In this workshop you will:

• Learn techniques for creating dynamic backgrounds on Fabriano Water Colour Canvas

• Explore the unique properties of this innovative painting surface

• Experiment with layering, colour blending, and texture

• Create your own underwater-themed artwork with guidance from Possum Rose

• Gain insight into the creative process of Possum Rose

This is a specialty workshop designed to introduce artists of all levels (and non-artists too!) to a unique professional material in a relaxing and creative environment with Possum Rose. About the Exhibition:

‘Her Voice: Stories of Strength & Identity’ is an International Women's Day curated group exhibition celebrating women’s lived experiences through visual art. The exhibition centers women as storytellers, amplifying diverse narratives of identity, resilience, expression, and collective strength.

Through a range of artistic practices and personal perspectives, ‘Her Voice’ provides a platform for women to share stories that are often marginalised, silenced, or overlooked. The exhibition priorities authenticity, emotional truth, and inclusivity, creating a space where vulnerability and strength coexist.

Women’s voices have historically been underrepresented within cultural institutions. ‘Her Voice’ seeks to address this imbalance by creating an accessible, supportive exhibition platform that foregrounds lived experience over conventional definitions of artistic success.

The exhibition recognises strength not only in survival or activism, but also in softness, self-definition, healing, and community. It acknowledges that identity is complex, layered, and continually evolving. It aligns with contemporary conversations around gender, equity, mental health, and cultural identity, while remaining deeply personal and community-focused.
