Unearthing soil as biodiversity
Event description
Unearthing soil as biodiversity
While ‘above ground’ biodiversity tends to capture the public’s attention as a leading indicator of climate change, sustainability experts caution that microbiomes are just as worthy to consider.
Microbiomes, such as those found in our stomachs or in soil, are vast universes of microbial communities that do the work ‘at a grassroots level’ to keep organic matter alive.
In this presentation co-hosted by AgriProve and the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSDA), climate innovator Matthew Warnken in conversation with BCSDA CEO Andrew Petersen highlights the importance of soil microbiomes and soil carbon and the role these concepts play in maintaining biodiverse food systems in a changing climate.
The conversation will also encompass the business of innovation as a necessary component of Australia’s mainstream climate solutions mix and will shine a light on the unique part our country can play in the emerging international trend of nature-based solutions.
