UNEARTHING STORIES PAST & PRESENT POST OCTOBER 7
Event description
Join us for a Shabbat Schmooze back together with Australian Friends of The Hebrew University!
Excited to be hosting Gila Kahila Bar - a professor serving as the head of the Molecular Evolution Laboratory, at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine.
Gila holds the position of Director of the National Natural History Collections of the Hebrew University and is certified by the Society of Wildlife Forensic Science (SWFS) as a Wildlife Forensic Scientist.
A very interesting and diverse lady, Gila's fascinating research crosses veterinary medicine, archaeology, and paleontology, and tragically, her unique talents were utilised after the Oct. 7th massacre, for help in identifying bodies.
In addition, by researching animal remains on Masada, Gila was able to determine what they ate, how they lived, religious rituals at that time, etc. She also spearheaded a fantastic project training dogs to sniff cancerous cells for early detection.
Leading an astounding career of game-changing innovation and research, Gila's professional journey is greatly impressive and inspiring!
