The Variety Australia Podcast is setting up a home at JMC Academy Sydney for our seventh filmed episode on Thursday 18th July, 2024.  As always, we are so proud to be bringing our students along for the ride with our very own Audio Engineering, Film and Television, and Entertainment Business Management students becoming part of the Variety podcast crew to film this episode with a live student audience. 

Amidst a backdrop of aspiring creatives, Variety Australia dive into real-world learning experiences from some of the most celebrated and accomplished figureheads in the film TV and media industries.

Poppy Reid is the Editor-In-Chief of Australia’s largest youth publisher, The Brag Media, which includes Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Variety Australia, Tone Deaf, The Brag and The Music Network under its umbrella.She is a multi-award winner, having won the Music Journalist of the Year award at the 2022 Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA), the Publishing accolade at this year’s Mediaweek Next of the Best Awards and more recently crowned The Champion of Change at The B&T Women In Media Awards.

Marc Fennell is a Walkley-winning journalist, interviewer, author, and documentary maker. Marc has been honoured internationally by The Webby Awards and twice nominated for Europe’s prestigious Rose d’Or. He is a recipient of America’s coveted James Beard Foundation Award, an Asian Creative Academy National Award, and 5-time medallist at the New York Festivals TV and Radio Awards. The Times (UK) even declared him to be the “cheerful Aussie version of Louis Theroux”. The host of the chart-topping, award-winning podcast & television series Stuff the British Stole (ABC/CBC), Mastermind Australia (SBS) The School That Tried to End Racism (ABC) The Kingdom (SBS) The Mission (SBS) and Download this Show (ABC Radio), Marc also created the hit podcast documentaries It Burns (Audible), Nut Jobs (Audible), House of Skulls (Audible) This Is Not A Game (BBC/Audible). For 9 years Marc hosted the SBS current affairs program The Feed (2013-2022). Marc has reported around the globe on topics ranging from sex in Japan to survivors of ISIS torture. His documentaries and interviews with the likes of Al Gore, Tom Cruise, Julian Assange, and Jennifer Lawrence have generated over 30 million online views. In 2019, Marc was named one of the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians. Fennell has written 2 books and has also appeared on ABC’s The Drum, Network Ten’s The Project, SBS’s Dateline and Insight. Marc is the father of 2 kids, lives in Sydney.
